Keratin bonded or “K-Tip” Extensions

The Long-Lasting and Natural Movement

Imagine individual strands of hair that blend seamlessly with your own. That’s the beauty of K-tip extensions.

The Process: K-tip extensions are individual hair strands with a keratin-based tip. This tip is bonded to separate strands of your natural hair using a specialized heat tool. The keratin creates a strong and secure bond.

Look and Feel: Because they are applied strand by strand, K-tips offer the most natural look and feel, mimicking the way your own hair grows. They allow for 360-degree movement, making styling very easy and natural-looking.

Durability: K-tip extensions are the longest-lasting of these three methods. Their bonds are quite strong and can withstand regular washing and styling.

Maintenance: Unlike sew-ins and tape-ins that get “moved up” K-tip extensions are typically installed and then left in place to grow out with your natural hair. Because of this, they don’t require move-up appointments in the same way. Instead, a new set of K-tips is usually recommended every 12-14 weeks as the attached hair has grown out significantly.

Considerations: K-Tips are an excellent option for those wanting a natural look and are committed to longer wear. Keratin extensions can be customized to your needs—whether you’re looking to add density and fill in damaged or thinning areas, or you’re going for extra length and dimension for a fuller, more voluminous look.

K-Tip Extensions FAQ

K-tips are small strands of human hair, each with a keratin tip. We use a heat tool to bond each strand to a small section of your natural hair, one strand at a time. Because they’re placed individually, they move just like your own hair and are almost impossible to spot. They’re also known as keratin bonded or fusion extensions.

K-tips work for almost every hair type, and they’re often the best choice for fine or thinning hair. Each bond is tiny and the weight is spread across your whole head. They’re also ideal if you love high ponytails and updos, or if you want to fill in specific thin areas instead of adding a full row.

No. Unlike hand-tied and tape-in extensions, K-tips aren’t moved up every few weeks. They stay in until your set is due to be replaced. That means fewer salon visits, though we’re always happy to see you for a check-in, toner or trim between sets.

A set of K-tips typically lasts 12–14 weeks. Over that time your natural hair grows and the bonds move down. Then we remove the set and install fresh hair.

When a trained specialist sizes each bond to the right amount of your hair and removes it professionally, K-tips are very gentle. Most damage comes from bonds that are too heavy for the hair they’re attached to, or from pulling them out at home. Always let us remove them.

Because each strand is placed individually, K-tip installs take longer than other methods, usually 3–5 hours for a full set. We cut and blend at the end so the extensions look like part of your own haircut.

Keep conditioner, oils and masks away from the bonds. Apply them from mid-length to ends only.
Use sulfate-free products. Your stylist will recommend products made for extensions.
Keep heat tools about an inch away from the bonds, and always use a heat protectant.
Brush gently with an extension brush, holding the hair near the root.
Dry your roots fully after washing, and sleep in a loose braid on a silk pillowcase.
